Amazon Expands Quick Commerce Service "Now" to Mumbai

Amazon has officially launched its ultra-fast delivery service, Amazon Now, in select parts of Mumbai, after successful pilots in Bengaluru and Delhi. This move places Amazon head-to-head with major rivals like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart in India's rapidly growing $7 billion quick commerce market.

What Is Amazon Now?

  • 10-Minute Deliveries: Amazon Now promises to deliver essentials, groceries, personal care, electronics accessories, baby and pet supplies, festive items, and more, in just 10 minutes.

  • Extensive Micro-Fulfillment Network: Over 100 dark stores (tech-enabled mini warehouses) are already set up in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, with plans to add hundreds more by year-end to support fast delivery in various neighborhoods.

  • Robust Growth: In Bengaluru and Delhi, daily orders grew by 25% month-over-month, and Prime members tripled their shopping frequency using Amazon Now.

Amazon’s Strategy and Market Impact

  • Competitive Push: Amazon’s quick commerce launch comes just ahead of the festive season and its flagship Great Indian Festival, intensifying competition with industry leaders Blinkit (52% share), Swiggy (25%), and Zepto (23%). Amazon’s entry is expected to shake up the market and capture new users.

  • Service Spectrum: Amazon Now sits within a broader “spectrum of speeds”, 10-minute essentials, groceries, and 40,000+ items within hours, and millions of products delivered same or next day to maximize customer convenience.

  • Prime Advantage: There are no delivery fees or usage limits for Prime members, distinguishing Amazon from many competitors that have minimum order amounts or capped free deliveries.

What’s Next?

  • Amazon Now will roll out to more Mumbai neighborhoods and expand to additional cities in the coming months. The company is investing heavily, over ₹2,000 crore this year, in operations and logistics to capture a larger share of India's quick commerce boom.

  • This launch also coincides with new GST rules on delivery fees, adding another layer of competition as quick commerce players prepare for the peak shopping season.

Summary:
Amazon Now’s expansion to Mumbai marks a bold step in the ultra-fast delivery race, offering groceries and daily needs in just 10 minutes, powered by a growing web of local micro-fulfillment centers. As the service grows, rivals and consumers alike will be watching closely to see if Amazon can become a dominant force in India’s quick commerce revolution.
